I have a 1903A3, 1942 according to the serial number, and a big 'ol nasty bayonet stamped 'RIA 1910' with the flaming bomb - it looks like they would hook up if the bayo could move another 1/8 " or so onto the barrel, but as things are it ain't happnin' - are they known to be incompatible, or what?

Also, take the grips off. There could be crud under the release leaver, preventing the latch from going down all the way. It fits, just needs attention.

Thanks for the responses- it appears that the problem is that the front sight is not pressed onto the barrel quite far enough to allow the bayonet to lock up with the lug. I am content to leave the bayonet in the sheath that has kept it looking new for 100 years. Rick, the serial is 3,546,6xx which would indicate 1943 - thanks.
