Kuznetsov was more known as a submarine man that naval aviation during his life time and in WWII in particular. So my guess is about Soviet subs operating in the Baltic Sea in 1943-45 time period?

But yes I remember seeing his face hanging off the wall of the XO's office on board the Kuznetsov in 1997-99? time period.

I think, based on the photos, that the solvers should not forget that Kuznetsov worked as naval attache in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Just call it a hunch. I can't get enough search time now to follow it up.
