Well here is another load I thought I would show the results of.

Bullet: 140gr hornady A-max
Powder: H4831, 38.6gr
Brass: lee collet neck sized, and factory crimp
Distance: 100yds.

Not too bad. This was the starting load in my hornady book. I tried the next load and the groups opened up. So I didnt try any of the other loads.

What rifle and sights did you use to shoot that nice group? I've also had good success with H4831 in the 6.5x55. Looks like I need to try some A-max bullets now.

I've used 44.0 grs. of H4831 with pretty good results. I chronographed it at 2449 ft/sec. The load you used shoots very good in you rifle.

140 grn Swede load

I am relatively new to reloading as a fellow board member sent me a brand new Lee Turret reloader for Christmas 2 years ago. I felt I needed to get into reloading at that point as the Swede surplus had seemed to dry up. (Not so now)
The first and only load I have tried and had good results with was the 140 grn A-max bullet, RL-22 powder, and Lapua brass. Mainly stick with about 45-46 grns of RL-22 and I resize all brass based on each rifle I shoot. Are there handloaders that have found a better mix of bullet/powder with improved results? Have heard many people use Sierra MatchKing bullets with good results. I have not experimented with other powders, but is there a better powder that burns just as well in a 29 inch barrel vs, a 23.5" or 18" carbine barrel?

You might want to set up a matrix experiment an step thru the powder range in 0.2gr increments, all other things being equal. I found the group to shrink and then start opening up again as I stepped thru the powder charge.

I'm not to the point of finding the best charge by increaseing the charge by .1 or .2gr at a time. I simply dont have enough time, or money to do that. (you will go through a lot of bullets and powder like that) So I am mainly sticking to loads in the books, like my hornady book. Its just easyer that way. But if I get data (from other books) that just has a start and max charge, then I will go in .5gr increments.
