Picked up a really nice Swiss Vetterli. Also have a spare bolt for conversion to centerfire. Brass is easy to get from Buffalo Arms. Now the two issues I can't find much information about.

1. What bullets would be best to try?
2. What powder and load other than BP would be worth a try?

Any help would be appreciated.

I use a 320gr. 44 cal. bullet over 9 grains of Unique.

Lighter 44 cal. bullets will not work through the action as they cannot be loaded out far enough to get the proper COL.

You have to really watch your overall length with this cartridge as, if it is too short it will allow the next cartridge in the mag. to come back and block the action. Too long and the cartridge on the elevator block will jam the action.

May I suggest that you try here for some great info on this project? http://www.militaryrifles.com/switzerland/vetconversion/vetterlishooting.html

Please keep us informed on how you do with this project.

The Lee dies are easy to come by. The issue seems to be getting the 2.2" OAL to allow for proper functioning. The lighter bullets won't seat far enough out in the 38mm case to feed. One guy in Denmark uses 42mm cases and even some 46mm cases.

I'll check with Lee on molds.

Thanks
