Default Can you help me ID this luger?

I am brand new to Lugers (my grandfather just gave me one that he has had in his basement for years... he says the last time it was fired was in the 50's) and I was hoping that someone could help me identify my latest acquisition. I took a lot of pictures, but if anyone needs a closer picture of something to help ID this gun, please let me know!

Thanks guys!

Hi Lax,

You have a 1915 DWM military luger, serial no.6420h. The letter IS part of the serial. Looks to be in pretty good shape. The holster too. There are others here who can tell you more about that. Read up on how to take it down and inspect the innerds for numbers. Being especially careful with the grips.

Welcome tot he forum. Nice rig.

Next time can you post the photos here instead of on photobucket, as they get deleted from there and also members at work or other places sometimes can't see the pictures.

Just out of curiosity (and a lack of knowledge about the value/practicality of Lugers), do you guys think it would be crazy to go to the range with this gun? I have no intentions of ever selling it since it is a family gun, and would possibly like to put a few rounds through it. Any suggestions? Please give me your honest opinions.

Jeff,

If you do decide to shoot it? Use only standard loads, such as Winchester "White Box", Sellier & Bellot , or similar. Never use CorBon, +P ammo or any high intensity ammo, as it will damage your Luger.

Also, keep in mind that if you should break a numbered part, it will deplete the value of the Luger considerably.
